The classic cars have started to cruise into town for Hot August Nights, so as hot rod engines rev and hot rod enthusiasts sock hop their way into the night, I am reminded the submission deadline for WSCA 2013 is less than a month away! With all that Reno has to offer, we hope that you are gearing up as well to join us in February.
If you haven’t been to the Reno area, you are in for a treat! From outdoor sports to world-class dining, from high-end shopping to rows of antique stores, and from the arts to timeless casinos, there is something for everyone. We just had a month long celebration of the arts with Art Town featuring movies in the park, fine art exhibitions, performances from local theater troupes, and concerts by philharmonic, opera, and dancers alike. Don’t worry—when you visit in February, you can still get in on the Reno arts scene by visiting the Nevada Museum of Art, or catching a concert or play from one of the many venues in the area. Although the cars from Hot August Nights will no longer be cruisin’ the main drag of Virginia Avenue in February, while in town, you can still see some fantastic classic and historic cars at the National Automobile Museum.
With so many options to choose from, we’ve had a hard time deciding what information to pass onto the WSCA members to get exciting for this year’s convention! The local hosts have set up a website (http://campusguides.unr.edu/wscareno) to give you an insider’s guide to all things Reno. We’ll keep updating the website to point you to all the unique things there are to see and do while you visit—so you can choose your own Western adventure!
We’re looking forward to helping make this year’s WSCA one of the best yet, and we hope you join us in February!
